Who's on First?

Writer: Richard RevelstokeRichard Revelstoke

Sometimes people get confused. It's easy to get confused in our complex, ever-changing modern society. We often don't know who's on first base and often life throws us a curve ball that we don't know how to handle. This is especially true in the world of religion where there seems to be so much confusion and contradictory ideas from so many different groups.

Many people throw their hands up and focus on their careers and their goals, whether financial or in the workplace - they settle into trying to build a strong material life here on planet Earth. There's nothing wrong with career or financial goals. They often help us become better, more stable people and give us security for the future.

Others focus on their family and friends and work on building up a positive, healthy social and family life, surrounding themselves with their children and grandchildren for comfort and happiness in their old age.

Then there are life's losers, those who just can't seem to make it work in our modern age. They descend into drugs and alcohol and chronic unemployment; maybe due to childhood abuse and neglect, or emotional problems. Some people just can't make it in our technological world. The escalating levels of homelessness are ample proof of this...

Still there are many who do find answers to their questions about priorities and what's important in life. They know who's on first. They find a religious or spiritual expression that gives meaning to their lives. Without values, life really does become meaningless.

Values are all about priorities.

Joshua ben Joseph taught that no matter what your values, goals or priorities, the most important thing is to seek the eternal things first and then everything else will fall into place. Everything of eternal value that you accomplish in this life will survive with you into the next life. As you sow, so shall you reap. If you spend all your time on material things, you will reap the material rewards; if you spend all your time on eternal, spiritual things, you will likewise reap those kind of rewards.

Have a great week. Peace on Earth and goodwill to everyone. ⚾️😛🤓❤️
