Maturity

Writer: Richard RevelstokeRichard Revelstoke

Maturity is a funny thing. We always expect others to be just as mature as we are and at other times we expect them to be just as immature - and then they surprise us with their wisdom and insight, or conversely, we are disappointed when people let us down due to their irresponsible words and actions.

We are all at different stages of development and sometimes it takes a long time for some people to learn some things that others learned when they were teenagers. Often we are impatient with others because sometimes people just don’t seem to grow up in certain areas.

I know many people who struggled, and I have to confess that I too struggled with things for years and I just couldn’t seem to get over them. Then suddenly one day all the numbers lined up and I was free. I’m sure many of you know what I’m talking about.

The carpenter’s son once compared the spiritual life to a tiny seed. It starts very small buried in the ground hidden from the sunlight. And then the seed is watered and starts to grow. But it still takes many, many years for a tiny seed to grow into a great tree. And then the birds take shelter and build nests in its branches and people can find shade underneath it from the heat of the day.

It takes a long, long time for a human being to grow and mature until he or she suddenly starts to discover that the secret of life is found in helping and serving other people. There is a lot more joy in giving than there is in piling up wealth and hoarding possessions. We are all part of a great global family and when we start to serve the family we truly become citizens of the world. ❤️🌎 Make it your goal in life to become a useful tree and a mature citizen. 😇
