Success & Failure

Writer: Richard RevelstokeRichard Revelstoke

Generally speaking, humans make decisions about others: like flipping a coin, we decide heads or tails. A person is seen as either good or bad, black or white. Maybe this is partly due to the influence of Christianity and the way that Christianity thinks the world is divided up between the wicked and the righteous - there is heaven or hell, God or the devil, sheep or goats.

One thing I do know for sure and that is none of us are really all good or all bad...mostly we're all in the middle, leaning to a greater or lesser degree towards the good or the bad. If we're sincere and honest with ourselves, we admit our mistakes, even if it's only to ourselves. The only way to learn and grow is to see the poor choices we've made and try not to repeat them.

Defeat is the true mirror in which you may honestly view your real self. 156:5.17

Defeat and failure are often emotionally devastating. Nobody likes to lose. Having the courage to carry on when everything has gone wrong, when friends have betrayed us, when relationships have breakdowns - this is often the sign of a strong character developing.

Wisdom, which is indispensable to true culture, can be secured only through experience and by men and women who are innately intelligent. Such a people are able to learn from experience; they may become truly wise. 81:6.13

Even the carpenter from Nazareth met failure and defeat square in the face. One of his own followers betrayed him; his best friends deserted him, his countrymen hated him and the religious leaders who were supposed to accept his message murdered him in a most horrific way.

For those who enjoy reading the Bible here's something to consider: The Bible is a book of failure - Lucifer rebelled, Adam and Eve screwed up, Cain murdered Abel, Abraham lied, David murdered a man to steal his wife, all the prophets were murdered, Jesus was killed, almost all the apostles were murdered, Paul re-invented Jesus and so on...

God is unbeatable however. He never loses. Good will always ultimately triumph over evil. It's the way of the universe. Love is far more powerful than hate. Love is more powerful than tanks and guns. It's stronger than addiction and failure. Be blessed and encouraged during defeat. Learn to see the silver lining that God is blessing you with in your situation. Though it may look dark, the light of another day is just around the corner. 🙂 ✌️😃❤️🌹🤩
