“We have about 50% of the world’s wealth but only 6.3% of its population… In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction.”
- George F. Kennan, US State Department Policy Memorandum, February 1948
Chilling comments and made even more chilling by the events of the last 70 years. Full spectrum dominance has it cheerleaders and it’s critics. I can’t say I can stir up any enthusiasm to wave the banner of war against those on the short end of “this position of disparity.”
The American Empire which is ruled not by presidents, governors or senators but by a secretive cabal of entrenched elites is on a locomotive ride that will continue to bring it into direct conflict with Russia, China and the Middle East.
The Mackinder Doctrine or sometimes called the Heartland Doctrine states in glaring yet simple terms that whoever controls Eastern Europe controls the heartland (Russia/Ukraine) and whoever controls the heartland controls the Eurasian continent and whoever controls the Eurasian continent controls the world.
There it is, the geostrategic agenda of the last hundred years. Everything else in the media is smoke and mirrors.
After the Berlin Wall fell the empire lacked a common enemy to galvanize its population to not only fund these expensive wars but also to send its sons and daughters into battle. Then along came 9/11 which has been a recruiting and PR bonanza to fuel the so-called War-on-Terror.
So we have Cold War 2.0 and a resurrected holy war against Islam to keep the Empire running at full-steam ahead for the indefinite future. The problem with this runaway locomotive is that it is leading the whole world into another world war and with the modern weapons available now the casualties could be in the billions not millions.
The truth is that the world’s elites (and their cheerleaders) learned nothing from the world wars of the last century. The victorious Allied powers carved up eastern Europe and the Middle East and then set their sights on bigger fish instead of wallowing in remorse and disillusionment.
Peace will come but there must be a price too costly even for the elites to pay before they will turn their weapons into plowshares and pruning hooks. The cry of our bitter and distraught planet, if she could talk, would be:
“Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.”
- Psalms 139:3
