The New Silk Road

Writer: Richard RevelstokeRichard Revelstoke

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) or sometimes called the New Silk Road is a China-sponsored multi-national infrastructure plan to connect the entire Eurasian continent and Africa with a trade and transportation network. As it moves towards its completion date in 2049 it will effectively make China the dominant international trading nation and by extension the leading global nation.

Russia under Vladimir Putin has emerged as the biggest partner of this plan — NATO and the US Empire’s worst geopolitical nightmare. NATO’s agenda has always been to contain Russia and prevent any power to threaten American hegemony globally. Any geopolitical strategist knows you can’t let the barbarians mingle together for long...

The New Silk Road will integrate over 60 countries with rail, seaports and road networks projected to cost several trillion dollars.

China has signed documents of support with 126 countries causing Washington hysteria over “debt trap diplomacy” and accusations of neocolonialism — because colonialism is only cool when the west does it right?

Putin spoke at the recent BRI summit:

“Russia is interested in the closest cooperation with all Eurasian partners on the basis of unshakable principles of respect for the sovereignty, rights and legitimate interests of each state. It is on these principles that we are building the Eurasian Economic Union, with our partners...”

The newly emerging Eurasian Economic Union integrated with rail, road, seaports, trade and banking partnerships would dwarf any current superpower economy. The US could be a partner in this continental initiative if they were able to swallow the pill of second fiddle partnership with China though it’s doubtful the US unipolar global agenda can compromise with any multipolar plans.

Meanwhile in Washington Trump is giddy that he spent 53 seconds in the DMZ in a vain attempt to arm wrestle North Korea into giving up its nukes and submitting to vassal status. The fact that a multi-national trade and transportation network is a future peace effort that would provide security for the whole world seems to be lost in sanctions and threats of “obliteration” to Iran.

“Scores of nations across the Global South, as well as some aspiring to developed world status, have adopted the Chinese investment and development model over financing from Washington or Brussels for three very simple reasons: no strings attached, no one-size-fits-all straitjacket, and no interference in their internal affairs.”
