The Problem with Paul

Writer: Richard RevelstokeRichard Revelstoke

I'm a former Pauline Christian. It's kind of like being at an AA meeting where you stand up and confess you're a recovering alcoholic. Many of you know what I mean. For those of you who are still infallible-word-of-God people, you should probably stop here because you won't like what's coming next.

I spent 20 years in the church involved mostly with music ministry, but I was also involved with youth and addictions counseling. I read my Bible and went faithfully to Bible study and did all the church things, 100 percent convinced in the infallibility of the "word of God." I sincerely believed everyone was going to hell except the chosen few - namely Christians - and even a lot of them I was taught weren't going to make it.

There's no easy way to say it so to dispense with the sugar-coating - Pauline theology is in error from top to bottom. There's not a single aspect of Paul's atonement and redemption theology that is either true or real. It's a house of cards and today we're going to pull out a few of the cards and watch the house fall.

First of all, Adam and Eve were not the first human beings on this planet. Evolution has proven beyond a reasonable shadow of a doubt that we are mammals descended from lower lifeforms. The Bible doesn't support the First Adam theory either because Cain went to the land of Nod to get himself a wife. He also needed a tribal mark put on his forehead to protect him from the other hostile tribes.

Secondly, God isn't angry at the human race because two poorly dressed gardeners ate a forbidden fruit. In fact, he isn't angry at all. A God-of-Wrath would not be worth worshiping; an angry, violent father would not be a good parent.

Thirdly, nobody has to die in order for God to forgive you. If your kids do something wrong, you don't shoot the cat. A good parent forgives his children automatically because forgiveness is automatic. You can't buy God's love by sacrificing innocent animals and especially not by torturing his Son to death.

Fourth. God doesn't make deals with the devil to buy our souls back. Fallen angels can't steal your soul and take you to hell.

Five. Hell is superstitious nonsense.

Six. Joshua ben Joseph, aka Jesus of Nazareth's message and mission was a teaching mission not a dying mission. He lived for us. He was called Rabbi even by his enemies because he was a traveling religious teacher. Hello?

Seven. If you got this far, you're most likely already onboard and none of this is anything new. If you're a Pauline Christian and you're still reading this, mostly likely you are now praying for God to rebuke some demons. But I guarantee you that none of your prayers will be answered because God doesn't rebuke the truth. If you think Paul's gospel is the truth then I'm here to tell you you've been taught in error.

Joshua ben Joseph taught the gospel of the kingdom of heaven, mentioned over 100 times in the gospels. He did not teach the gospel of atonement and redemption. Paul did. That's the truth. Paul's gospel has only served to obscure the real original message of the carpenter from Nazareth and hold us all back for the last 2000 years.

Here's the real message:

God is your Father, we are all brothers and sisters part of a great divine family. The two commandments are the rule of living for this family. Salvation is by faith. We realize our Sonship in the family and enter in as new born children of God. This relationship is life-transforming and gives us a natural desire to serve the family. Service makes us more like the God we serve and we slowly become more perfect like our Father.

That's it. No atonement needed. Have a nice day. 🌞🌎🙏❤️
